Environmental stewardship

Caring for the Bronx River and the air and water our neighbors depend on.

Why it matters

Sadly, low-socioeconomic communities are often the ones who bear the burden of environmental damage and destruction. They are forced to endure commercial pollution and blight, and the toxic emissions from railways, highways, and overpasses. For this reason, YMPJ has engaged in environmental stewardship for much of its operating history.

What we do

In the 90s YMPJ volunteers made significant environmental impact organizing Bronx River cleanups. More recently, we have been key players in the Concrete Plant Park reclamation, the Sheridan campaign, Swale, Bronx River Foodway, and more. YMPJ currently organizes Bronx River canoe trips and tree planting campaigns, and facilitates air and water quality monitoring.
